Hans Hillmann (1925-2014)

Poster designed by Hans Hillmann
Isabel Stevens has written in Sight & Sound (September 2014) a fine tribute to Hans Hillmann (1925-2014), the German graphic artist, illustrator, and graphic designer, highly regarded for his poster art. Hillmann is regarded as the founder of modern German film poster art. He was the trusted poster artist, among others, for Alain Resnais and Jean-Luc Godard for the German releases of their films.

In Godard's 2 ou 3 choses que je sais d'elle which we are screening this week there are Hans Hillmann posters on the walls of the apartment of Julietta Janson (Marina Vlady). Prominent among them is Hillmann's Muriel poster. Godard saw 2 ou 3 choses as a spiritual sequel to Muriel.
